Erasmus+

Erasmus+ for young people and organisations

Erasmus+ is the EU programme for education, training, youth and sport. Here are the basics, so you know what you can do and what to ask.

KA1 · Learning mobility

Non-formal learning and participation: young people and youth workers meet across borders.

  • Youth exchanges

Groups of young people from different countries meet and work on a shared topic, such as climate, culture or digital skills.

  • Mobility of youth workers

Training courses and seminars that strengthen the people who lead and support young people.

  • Youth participation activities

Initiatives for civic participation and democratic dialogue.

KA2 · Cooperation among organisations

Organisations share practice, build capacity and develop approaches that benefit young people.

  • Small-scale partnerships

Flexible projects for grassroots organisations that want to build capacity and international links.

  • Cooperation partnerships

Larger projects that develop toolkits, research and recommendations.

Before you take part

  • Age

Youth exchanges are for young people aged 13 to 30. Group leaders must be at least 18. An activity may set narrower criteria.

  • Duration

A youth exchange lasts 5 to 21 days, excluding travel. Youth-worker mobility lasts 2 to 60 days.

  • How participation starts

You take part through an organisation, and organisations apply to a National Agency. In Sweden that is MUCF for youth and sport.

  • Costs

An approved project can contribute to travel, accommodation, meals and activities. What is covered, and whether a participant contribution applies, depends on the project. Confirm with the organiser before you book anything.

Three steps

  1. Understand the opportunity

Read about the format, who it is for and what taking part involves.

  2. Express interest

Tell us or a partner organisation that you want to know more. Interest does not guarantee a place or funding.

  3. Confirm before booking

Wait until the organiser confirms your place, budget, insurance and safeguarding before booking travel.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a student?

No. Youth exchanges are open to young people aged 13 to 30 who live in the countries of the sending and receiving organisations, whether or not you study.

Are costs covered?

An approved project can contribute to travel, accommodation, meals and activities. Terms differ between projects, so ask the organiser before booking.

How do I apply?

You do not apply to the EU yourself. You express interest to an organisation, such as us, that has or applies for a project.

What about safety and accessibility, especially for under-18s?

Under-18s travel with a group leader who is at least 18. Ask the organiser about their safeguarding, accessibility and parental consent arrangements before you decide.

What is Youthpass?

Youthpass is the EU's tool for recognising what you learned in an Erasmus+ youth project. Participants can receive a Youthpass certificate.
